*257 days for 2024/25 School Year due to three furlough days

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Operations Officer, the Paralegal will assist legal services to the District’s Human Resources Management Team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Communicate effectively with the staff and general public in person, by telephone, via E-mail and in writing.
- Provide confidential paralegal/administrative support services to the Human Resource Management Team. Includes telephone, correspondence, composition, drafting and file summaries, filing, handling mail and other associated duties.
- Review and analyze contracts for indemnification language and insurance requirements.
- Assist Human Resources in responding to OSPI complaints.
- Provide guidance to buildings and District Leadership regarding custody documentation and parenting plans.
- Maintain confidential files and records.
- Perform legal research.
- Oversee, manage, prepare and coordinate public records requests for the District including communicating responses to requestors.
- Coordinate the exchange of information with outside legal counsel, courts, and community representatives to maintain a positive relationship with the schools and community.
- Perform calculations with regard to legal services, budgets and maintain accurate and concise reports.
- Receive requests for statistical or informative material which can be assembled from records; prepare or oversee preparation, observing deadlines.
- Research, compile and analyze data and prepare reports
- Handle highly-sensitive and confidential documents and information.
- Process incident reports, report insurance claims to ESD 112, and/or oversee claims as they affect District interests.
- Confidential note taker for Human Resources Management Team.
- Experience with the interpretation of Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Ability to assist with contract negotiations.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:
Computer/Laptop, telephone, 10-key calculator, printers, FAX machine and all other tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential functions as listed above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 3+ years of progressively responsible paralegal/administrative assistant experience. Completion of paralegal training can substitute for 1 year of experience.
- Bachelor degree in related field preferred.
- Knowledge of school liability laws and related court decisions.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and use good judgement in responding to inquiries.
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and excel in a dynamic, high stress and time sensitive environment with frequent interruptions.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications, including a Windows environment and related Microsoft applications.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally and possess a positive attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to operate the office equipment as listed in the tools and equipment area above.
- Demonstrated ability to perform tasks accurately and in accordance with established guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to compose written response to communications, using proper language, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading skills.
