TITLE:  DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM COORDINATOR

LOCATION:  ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE CENTER

REPORTS TO:  DIRECTOR OF MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS

DEPARTMENT:  ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS

 

HOURS/WORK TIMES

 

Generally 8 Hours Per Day / 260* Days Per Year (July-June)

*257 days for 2024/25 School Year due to three furlough days

 

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected.  The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after September 26, 2024.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Dual Language Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and management of the Dual Language Program in the district. This role focuses on collaborating with district and school personnel, engaging multilingual families, facilitating program access, and promoting the benefits of multilingual education. The coordinator will also provide training to staff and direct services to families to enhance student outcomes in a dual language environment. Spanish proficiency assessment must be passed at an Advanced-high level of proficiency.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate student recruitment efforts and conduct informational sessions for prospective families at schools and in the community, including conducting Spanish language proficiency screening for potential late entry students.
  • Develop and implement methods to communicate program information, gather interest, and provide support to families, including at the EPS Welcome Center.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from families, community members, and stakeholders about program access and opportunities.
  • Assist in the orientation and support of new students and families to ensure a smooth transition into the program.
  • Work with district and school personnel to address family needs related to dual language programs.
  • Organize and facilitate parent informational and input sessions, promoting engagement and updating families about the Dual Language Program.
  • Collaborate with feeder schools and the Multilingual Director to ensure program articulation from elementary through high school is understood by families.
  • Ensure program communications (website, video, brochures, etc.) are up-to-date.
  • Serve as a liaison between parents, community members, and the Multilingual Department to promote open communication and support.
  • Disseminate bilingual information to staff and families clearly and concisely.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff on the Dual Language Immersion model, including fundamentals of bilingual education (i.e. registrars, liaisons etc.).
  • Assist in teacher recruitment at job fairs, and serve on interview committees, including conducting Spanish language proficiency screening for potential hires.
  • Develop a list of community language resources (e.g., speakers, field trip venues) to facilitate authentic use of target languages.
  • Engage in networking with other school districts and regional Dual Language Programs to stay current on best practices.
  • Attend relevant trainings and conferences to stay updated on research and strategies for educating language learners.
  • Conduct Spanish language proficiency screenings for late-entry student applicants and intake surveys for potential dual language students.
  • Utilize student enrollment data strategically to support program enrollment and access.
  • Plan and present or co-present parent and student orientations, meetings, advisories and other related dual language events.
  • Maintain records and inventory of Multilingual Education instructional materials.
  • Support dual language programmatic needs as they arise, adapting to changing priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and vision of the Multilingual Education Department.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Dual Language Immersion Programs and bilingual education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced-high level of proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in community engagement, education, or a related field preferred, or four years of equivalent work experience.
  • Preferred Dual Language Education
  • Two or more years of experience managing large-scale programs or services involving diverse constituents and partners.
  • A valid driver license and ability to travel to school sites throughout the District
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish (listening, reading, written and spoken).
  • Experience in recruitment, community outreach, and family engagement.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to conduct language proficiency screenings.
  • Experience in delivering trainings.
  • Familiarity with multicultural education and culturally responsive practices.
  • Ability to use technology in data collection, analysis, and reporting to determine effectiveness of student recruitment and enrollment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership and promote high standards and professional success.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including innovation and the ability to maintain positive relationships with staff, parents, community members, and employee groups.
  • Commitment to working as an effective member of a district-based team.
